Stroop Test: Colour Word Challenge

ColorTrapV shows you a colour word printed in a different colour and asks for the ink, not the word. It is a playable version of the Stroop test, and the interference it creates is surprisingly hard to override at speed.

How to play ColorTrapV

  1. A colour word appears on screen, printed in a colour that does not match what it says.
  2. Read the prompt above it. Usually it asks for the ink colour, and you must ignore what the word spells.
  3. Every fifth question flips the rule and asks what the word says instead — so the prompt has to be read, not assumed.
  4. Pick from the labelled options before the time bar for that question empties.
  5. The pace increases as you progress.

How scoring works

Each question carries its own shrinking time bar, and answering while more of the bar remains scores more. The questions speed up as you go, so a long run is worth progressively more per answer. Because every fifth question inverts the rule, the flipped questions are where most runs are lost — they are scored the same, but missed far more often.

Common questions

What is the Stroop effect?

It is the delay caused when the meaning of a word conflicts with a property you are being asked to report — here, reading a colour word while naming a different ink colour. The reading happens automatically and gets in the way.

Can I play this if I am colour blind?

Yes. Every option is labelled with its colour name in text, so you never have to distinguish the answers by colour alone.

Why does it get harder near the end?

The time bar shortens as you progress, so the same question gives you less room. The rule itself does not get harder — only the pace.
