Map Quiz: Drop a Pin

GeographyDropV names a place and asks you to tap the map where you think it is. You are scored on the real distance between your pin and the true location, so a near miss is worth far more than a wild guess.

How to play GeographyDropV

  1. Choose a mode: India cities, India landmarks, world capitals or world cities.
  2. A place name appears above the map.
  3. Tap where you think it is, then confirm the pin.
  4. The true location is revealed along with the distance you were out by.
  5. Five rounds make a game.

How scoring works

Your score for each round comes from the great-circle distance between your pin and the true coordinates — the actual distance over the surface of the Earth. Closer is worth exponentially more, so halving your error more than doubles your points. The five rounds are summed into a final total.

Common questions

Is the map accurate enough to score fairly?

Scoring uses exact coordinates, not the drawing. The outlines are simplified to keep the app small, but your distance is calculated against the real location.

What is great-circle distance?

The shortest distance between two points measured over the surface of a sphere — the real-world distance between your pin and the place, rather than a straight line across a flat image.

Can I zoom in before placing the pin?

The map is sized so the whole region is visible at once, which is what makes it a memory challenge rather than a search.
