Word Chain Game
WordChainV is the classic chaining game: every word you play must begin with the last letter of the word before it. The dictionary ships with the app, so it works with no connection at all.
How to play WordChainV
- A starting word appears. Your word must begin with its final letter.
- Type a word of at least three letters that has not already been used in this chain.
- Each accepted word extends the chain and passes its last letter to you again.
- In Timed mode you get ten seconds a turn; in Survival the clock shortens as your chain grows.
- The run ends when the clock beats you.
How scoring works
Your score is the length of the chain you build, with longer words worth more than the minimum three letters. Repeats within a chain are rejected rather than penalised, so a rejected word costs you only the seconds it took. If no valid word remains for a given letter, you are granted a free turn and may play anything, which prevents a dead end from ending an otherwise strong run.
Three ways to score better
- Avoid ending your words on rare letters. Handing yourself a word ending in x or q wastes your next turn.
- Words ending in a vowel are usually the safest — they open the widest set of replies.
- In Survival, play short words early to bank chain length before the clock tightens.
Common questions
Which dictionary does it use?
A word list bundled with the app itself. Nothing is looked up over the network, which is why the challenge works fully offline.
What happens if there is no possible word?
You get a free turn and can play any valid word. A letter with no continuations will not end your run.
Can I reuse a word later in the same chain?
No. Repeats are blocked within a chain, though a new chain starts from a clean slate.
